T.E. Lawrence’s (”Lawrence of Arabia”) map of a proposed new map of the Arab Middle East, November 1918. Lawrence spent much of the First World War working with Arab groups, inciting them to revolt against the Ottoman Empire. The Arab Revolt did take place, but Lawrence’s attempts to turn much of the region into an independent state (as Arab leaders had been promised) fell on deaf ears. The British and French had already secretly decided to split the region between themselves in the Sykes-Picot Agreement of 1916.{WHF} {HTE} {Medium} -- source link
