I don’t find it inspiring at all bc she has an ~ideal~ bare face. no acne, scars, hyper pigmentation, dark circles, etc…ofc it’s easy for her to go barefaced. seeing a woman with any of the aforementioned skin conditions going makeup free, now that would be impressive. otherwise this just makes the majority of women that don’t look like this barefaced pressured into the same tired standard of unattainable (unless ur a celeb w access to certain services or have won the genetic lottery) perfection. I mean I still appreciate her effort and the concept of it and it’s not like it’s her fault she looks so good makeup free, but it indeliberately replicates an ideal of what women should look likeas someone with really shit skin i feel you but even though when we look at her we just see someone who’s lucky to be beautiful and have really nice skin, a lot of other people see this and find it weird and inappropriate or even ugly. just cuz we are not personally uplifted by this due to having more complications around our bare faces doesn’t mean it’s meaningless. it’s easy for her to go bare faced, but only in a relative sense. look at what’s normal and expected in the setting she’s in. general visibility for the bare face in this sort of context seems like a step in the right direction at leastyeah I ultimately agree w you on that. It’s just a lil disappointing that the representation that we always get of women w no makeup are basically flawless. anyway she’s brave for this especially as a black woman who will be put under a microscope and criticized more than ur avg white Hollywood feminist -- source link
