Roots of The Dinner Party | Feminist Flashback FridayThe Dinner Party studio was a nexus of feminist community-building and art making. After one and a half years working on the piece alone, Judy Chicago accepted nearly 400 volunteers to help her in the final three years before The Dinner Party was completed. Significant collaborative efforts were also made during the research stage. Chicago brought on art history student Diane Gelon, artist Ann Isolde, and a team of volunteer researchers to comb through male-dominated historical narratives for the lives and contributions of the women who would appear on the place settings and the Heritage Floor.
