uwmspeccoll:A Kingfisher FeathursdayWith global warming, it looks like the Halcyon Days of Winter may still be upon us (at least in Milwaukee), although certainly not politically!! So for the first #Feathursday of 2021 we thought we’d present some halcyon birds – kingfishers – to reflect our mild winter weather, and perhaps to bring some calm to our current wild, chaotic, and downright stormy political environment. Shown here are wood engravings and a chromolithograph of some kingfishersfrom Part 2, Volume 2 of Brehms Thierleben (1882). We don’t know who produced the image for the chromolith, but two of the engravings are signedby the noted German wildlife artist Gustav Mützel, and one is also signed by the wood engraverKarl Jahrmargt.
