What other fossil could I use?Today is #NationalFossilday #nfd2014 continuing our #Earthscienceweek theme. The American Geoscience Institute which organizes Earth Science Week has partnered with the US National Park Service to organize today as a day to celebrate fossils.I genuinely can’t think of a better fossil to go with for today than this one. Obviously, this is our good friend Tyrannosaurus Rex. Come on, even the name seems threatening. The interesting thing is, not only is this a T-Rex specimen, this is THE specimen. This is the type specimen of the species, the first specimen of it ever described. Fossil hunter Barnum Brown, who discovered a total of 5 specimens, found this specimen in the early 1900s in Montana. Its description was originally published in 1905, when the organism received its name. This fossil was sold to the Carnegie Museum of Natural History in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where it is now on display.-JBBImage credit: I may have taken this one myself.Read more:http://www.livescience.com/23868-tyrannosaurus-rex-facts.html -- source link
