thebikecomesfirst: Race Report: Pro XC at Kamikaze Bike Games It was a strange race in the pro category. We were all spread out and racing alone. Nic Beechan won, Ryan Steers got 2nd and Brian Gordon 3rd. I finished 6th in 01:52:34. I was trying to catch Derek for 5th (and for $50!!), but I was never able to make contact. He’s a beast! He even had enough juice left in his batteries to participate in the eBike race immediately after. So a lonely race. But at least I had a few expert guys catching me to race with. They had a good pace and it was a lot of fun swapping positions. Great job by them! But after they finished their 3 laps race, my 4th lap was super lonely. Thankfully I was still feeling good and I decided to drop the hammer and see if I could catch Derek. That last lap was fast! And that’s such a great feeling to be able to push on the final lap — as opposed to dragging your bonking ass across the line. So I’m happy with that race! I was kinda hoping for a re-match against Larissa Connors this year. She raced with us last year and kicked my ass! But I guess she had other places to be. The course was a blast! Even without battles for position, it’s engaging to race that course and trying to get master its flow. The dirt wasn’t as loose as it used to be, so it was rolling fast. Technical skills were definitely making a difference there. With plenty of flying single track, up and downs and small rock obstacles all over. To keep your speed you really had to work the bike. Great race! I did not hold anything back. And I felt it good in my leg the next day at the Endure race. Watch the whole race from my GoPro HERE.
