thestarsinourmagcon:noodlesdare:My brother walked in on me in the bathroom earlier today.He was confused as to why I only had a half-face of makeup on. I told him I was going to do a photo of me as half girl and half guy. His expression was more confused than anything. Mind you he is 10 and one of the most intelligent minds I know.“Why?” he asked me.“Because society tells me I can’t be both,” I reply.After another glance up at me, he asked what sparked this sudden want of doing this picture. I told him it wasn’t sudden but there was a girl named Leelah who inspired me and that she was unfortunately gone. My brother asked who she was and I explained it to him. Living in the town we do, of course, he had never really heard of being transgender or anything other than, well, being straight, redneck, judgmental people. Knowing this, I had to explain what being bisexual, agender, non-binary and such meant. After I had finished explaining what had happened, he looked upset. I smiled down at him after I had finished explaining, hugged him and asked if he understood. He nodded and moved towards the bathroom sink which had my makeup sprawled across it. He grabbed one of the brushes and applied a crap ton of blush to his face (even his ear) and put on a clear lipstick. He took my camera from my room and came back; giving it to me with a smile.“Let’s see what society thinks about this!”Once the picture was taken, I put the camera down on the vanity and began to finish what I was doing. He walked out and came back a few minutes later. Popping his head into the bathroom doorway.“I hope Leelah knows how beautiful she is now.”I know that this isn’t what I normally post but I felt like this needed to be put up. My ten year old brother put on makeup, took a picture and swore to me that he would never judge anyone for being who they are. No matter the gender, age or race. How is it that a ten year old can be this accepting but others cannot? this needs more notes wtf -- source link
