followthebluebell:itmightbehere:followthebluebell:Y'all may be wondering why I’m so keen on good animal diets lately. This is why. These two emaciated cats were fed a “complete diet” that was severely lacking in important nutrients. I can fit one hand almost all the way around their middles. I could play their ribs like a xylophone and their hips stick out. One has some kidney damage that can hopefully be repaired with a proper diet. They’re now under the care of a rescue and are receiving a proper diet. In the background, you can see a bag of Orijin— hopefully, we’ll see some slow weight gains soon. The cats are already more active and can now walk around, and even jump on their cat tree. Picture One: I can fit my entire hand around this cat’s waist and almost have my fingers touch. My thumb is about where her rib cage ends. That’s how skinny she is.Picture two: Same cat’s hips. There’s almost no muscle here. She could barely walk for the first few days. The bone that’s jutting out sharply is her hip bone.Picture three: a different cat’s hips and spine. Again, I have my hand there to show the degree of emaciation. I can almost fit my hand entirely around her. She has some slight kidney failure. There is one other cat in the group, but he’s highly stressed. I don’t want to press my luck—-or his comfort zone—by manhandling him like this. :( what do you mean by complete diet? Were the owners not feeding them enough, or the wrong type of food? They were being fed a “vegan diet”, supplemented with small tablespoons of fish every few days. -- source link
