Late October 2015 - VeggiesThis tray is performing the best of all of our late season veggies planted extra late. Quite pleased with these. I also went ahead and added more sifted vermicompost to the deck bed, and transplanted the bok choi. Last year some terrible disease hit the brassicas in the bed, so I’m running a risk, but I also added crimson clover and austrian winter peas, in addition to the cilantro and baby rainbow chard already in there. Hopefully I can hedge my bets via biodiversity. Have lucked out with the weather, we’ve been warm with some needed rains. We went ahead and pre-ordered some apple trees from orangepippintrees. After last year’s multi-month shipping fiasco / order mixup and subsequent unimpressive tree performance from Legg Creek Farm, we opted to instead invest in good genetics, even if it means far fewer trees. Orange pippin carries all kinds of unusual and hard to find apple varieties, and they carry Cornell’s highly regarded Geneva root stock line.I mention this because they’re already selling out, in case anyone else is interested. They also have an amazing and informative website (they actually have two). They really put a lot of time and thought into making it, and it’s a great place to learn about apple trees. -- source link
