The Barnitzke Machine Gun,Created during World War II in Germany, the Barnitzke Machine Gun was designed as a possible replacement to Germany’s famed MG-42. Chambered in 7.97x57, the Barnitzke utilized a very odd delayed blowback system. When fired the opening of the bolt would be delayed by the inertia of two flywheels, which are driven by a rack and pinion arrangement on the bolt carrier. Only a few prototypes were ever built and none saw active duty use as the war ended before trials and testing could be completed. -- source link
