noctusfury:bigfrozenfan-archive:lelitachay:thegeekogecko:super-mam-te-moc:ingridverse:the-sky-is-awake:super-mam-te-moc:namidanoondowa:There are 196 countries in the world todayand virtually none of them have purple on their national flag.Only Arendelle! Why?Beacuse purple was just far too expensiveUntil the 1800s purple was worth more than it’s weight in goldthe color purple has been associated with royalty power and wealth for centuries.Queen Elizabeth the first forbade anyone except close members of the royal family to wear it.Purple’s elite status stems from the rarity and cost of the dye originally used to produce it the dye initially used to make purple came from the Phoenician trading city of Tyre which is now in modern-day Lebanon fabric traders obtained the dye from a small sea snail that was only found in the tyre region of the Mediterraneana lot of work went into producing the dye as more than 10000 snails were needed to create just one gram of tyree and purplePuple also came to represent spirituality and holiness because the ancient Emperor’s kings and queens that wore the color were often thought of as gods or descendants of the godsso since the sheer price of purple was so astronomically highno one not when the richest nations could afford to have purple on their flag Because the flag can’t print only one flagin 185618 year old English chemist William Henry Perkin accidentally created a synthetic purple compound while attempting to synthesize quinine an anti-malaria drug he noticed that the compound could be used to dye fabricsPurple dye was then mass-produced so just about everybody could afford itPurple is also becoming popularThe conclusion is Arendelle is a very, very rich countryExcellent analysis!I wonder if Disney ever thought about it Of course, once you adopt national colors, they also have to go on all the country’s uniforms. In his book The Wars of the British, Simon Schama says the iconic red color of British army uniforms was originally chosen because red dye was cheap, which gives a new dimension of meaning to all the purple and reddish-purple trim on Arendellian uniforms (plus those of the castle staff): Not to mention the royal family’s wardrobe. The capper has to be Anna’s travel cloak (which must have been awfully expensive, and which she loses going over the waterfall in the Lost Caverns):I’ve been wondering how, if (as the books say) Runeard was the founder of this royal family, he got to be king in the first place. Maybe it had something to do with his wealth. My headcanon is that someone in Arendelle synthesized coal tar dyes long before Perkin did and the method was kept secret. Which made Arendelle financially comfortable AND explains why Weaseltown was so interested in mysterious Arendelle and their trade goods.Reblogging for excellent comments@ingridverse that is now canon afaiac Excellent analysis! I love the idea of Weselton being interested in Arendellle for this very reason.I have to re-blog this again because of all these great additions.Reblogging for all of the great additions. Also, I accept this headcanon about the Duke of Weselton coming to figure out the secrets of the purple dye. I mean, if I was Arendelle, I’d keep the one thing that’s giving me the solid cash flow to myself. lol XDI wonder if any real world nations have ever used purple uniforms and also on their flags? And of course the Brits would go for something cheap, yet cut a dashing figure. They failed to learn that it just made them easy target practice for their enemies. However, I have to disagree concerning Runeard being the first King. Arendelle doesn’t look 50-100 years to me. Arendelle sounds like from “A Frozen Heart” to be an older Kingdom. Of course, if this is true, and Runeard is the first King, it could be that Arendelle was ruled by another nation and it was able to receive its independence and was able to be a Kingdom again, same with the Kingdom of Norway getting its independence from Sweden in 1905. And Runeard was elected as its first King in years, since he was related to the previous dynasty. -- source link
