surprisebitch:I have to admit I was not a big fan of Carly Rae Jepsen.. but what convinced me to give this a listen then eventually buy E•MO•TION was the rave reviews by critics and unbelievably indie music bloggers. And they are not exaggerating, it is surprisingly a cohesive Pop album. As soon as you start the album and hear the blaring saxophone intro of Run Away With Me, you know you’re about to be taken to an epic musical journey like its dazzling music video. Hailed by critics as the song of the year, this universally acclaimed euphoric track showcases Carly Rae Jepsen’s soaring vocals accompanied by an explosive production, impressively captivating chorus, which perfectly conveys the song’s title and lyrics. It really makes you want to run away at night with your lover, never look back, and be carefree. In the title track, E•MO•TION, you are given a glimpse of the sound that is about to come thanks to its pristine synth in the chorus as she sings “This emotion, I feel it… you feel it” inviting the listeners to let this vivid album enlighten your life. The album is fundamentally built on colourful synthesisers which give a nostalgic 80s vibe. E•MO•TION conjures a wide spectrum of the Pop genre such as dream pop (the heavenly and intimate “Gimmie Love”), bubblegum pop (the sassy empowering extremely catchy breakup anthem, “Boy Problems”, and the playful “LA Hallucinations”) chamber pop (the epic “Making The Most of The Night”), techno pop (minimalistic “Black Heart”), indie pop (hauntingly beautiful Warm Blood) and euro pop (the energetic “I Didn’t Just Come Here to Dance”), jazzy pop (the lush “Let’s Get Lost”), disco pop (the festive “When I Needed You”) to give some examples. There are also lyrics that will get you “oh my god…does she read my diary” with tracks like “Your Type” for those experiencing unrequited attraction and “I Really Like You” when you really like someone (seriously this deserved to get the same commercial success as Call Me Maybe did). Although, one can say that all songs in this album are universally relatable. Moreover, the sentimental ballad “All That”, another universally acclaimed track and awarded as Best New Track by Pitchfork (a pretentious elitist indie music critic site) where Carly proves her musical maturity and surprises critics. “Favourite Colour” is a beautiful closing curtain for the deluxe version of the album after experiencing that rollercoaster ride of emotions in each track.Like the stylistic title, E•MO•TION, is an artfully crafted Pop album jam-packed with potential hits. Hands down each track is amazingly memorable and single material that it makes you hope every track has a music video. The fact that anti Pop music listeners are actually commending this album and are captivated should explain alot. Put simply, I cant believe that Carly Rae Jepsen of all people is responsible for creating the best Pop album of the year (as named by Billboard, Spin, Time, Tribeca Film and Business Inside) and one of the greatest albums of the decade. Honestly, stream it or buy E•MO•TION because this album deserves your money. She is really underrated and she deserves more recognition. -- source link
