every Roja x Rishi scene in Roja (1992) — 1/?Context: Roja is young girl from a small village in Tirunelveli, South India. Her elder sister is arranged to be married to a well-to-do city boy from Madras (now Chennai), India. Roja wants to see the groom for herself first so that she can give a stamp of approval to her sister, lest he turns out to be an obnoxious fellow. This scene shows their first meeting. Roja and her little friend bring along a herd of sheep, as they keep watch of the groom’s vehicle, in order to test his fortitude. As the sheep swarm around, the groom steps out of his car and starts to look around the lush nature, revelling in the sight of swans and the greenery that is a rarity in Madras. His mother, who is accompanying him for bride-seeing ceremony, perceives that her son has already fallen in love with the village and says, “If you like it so much here, I can leave you behind [for good].” To which, he responds, “I don’t mind”. Roja is impressed with the groom’s unfazed demeanour and gazes at him in awe. Then he starts smoking, at which point, Roja and her little friend are immediately enraptured. The groom looks around some more and spots Roja and her little friend spying on him from behind the rocks. He is intrigued by this exercise of theirs, and returns their stares with equal gusto. Roja and her friend hide behind the rocks, at first, but after they realise that he has caught them in the act, run away from there. The groom is amused by their antics. -- source link
