messoamerica:Tikal’s Stela 31 is the accession monument of Siyaj Chan K’awiil II and contains the longest hieroglyphic inscription from the Early Classic period with a dedication date of AD 445. The inscription describes the political history of the site, with particular emphasis on the AD 378 conquer of Tikal by the Teotihuacano general Siyaj K’ak’. It is considered one of the most challenging inscriptions currently known to archaeologists, with many portions remaining poorly translated/understood.A more extensive review of the inscription by Mayanist and epigrapher David Stuart can be found here. -- source link
