orphanspace: I’m in the middle of opening the store but I just dropped everything to post. This young woman, this girl, was in a plane crash with 2 relatives. It was a small plane. They died, she survived. She survived a small plane hurtling toward earth and certainly anticipated her own death. She survived crawling out of the wreckage and witnessing the dead bodies of her relatives. She was alone in the woods, the lone survivor. People don’t survive those tiny planes crashing- it’s miraculous. And she kept her wits about her and used common sense and a drive to keep living to find her way through the woods to the highway. It took her two days of walking through the forest, walking away from a plane crash, to make it to a road, lacerated and severely dehydrated. She has been very eloquent and strong in dealing with the media since. A guy at work smirks and says: “Well, I mean, if she survived, it couldn’t have been that bad a crash. I know I sound like an asshole, but it’s true.” And I just feel like, there it is- anything, anything a female goes through or does, especially when it’s a teenaged girl, can be devalued. Even our plane crashes aren’t real enough or good enough. -- source link
