Did you know that Shane Sato shot this iconic portrait of the “Joy Luck Club” movie circa 1993? It was one of his first “on set "photos for a major studio and given to me by director Wayne Wang! Thanks Wayne!!The ‘ Chinese Kids” were also 2nd generation or ‘Nisei” and recounts the story of the struggles to survive in America. Shane still remember a scene where one of the women had to give up her child while fleeing, and the separation of this mother and child was just heartbreaking. Families being torn apart for any reason is just unacceptable….just like when the Nisei were torn away from their families as well as the political turmoil of today.Amy Tan was the writer of this groundbreaking movie that had a star studded cast of characters!! Tamlyn Tomita stars as Waverly in the movie and Shane and her are still friends all these years later. Look for her personal story featured in our celebrity stories section of the The Go For Broke Spirit. -- source link
