kyoretsuna:rach-quit:shelbyxpwns:I made this because I’m sick of all the hate Frozen’s been getting on this site. Ignore the few grammatical errors. Also please don’t hate me. I just want everyone to get along and watch Disney movies and laugh and love each other and eat popcorn without making everything an issue of political correctness. Thank you for this and god speed on all the hate you’re gonna get v.vthank you thank you thank you!!!While I do agree with the point that Disney is not inherently racist, they are not free of guilt in their current treatment of PoC and minorities. It is not okay to excuse their lack of inclusion. While Disney has included some PoC characters, their treatment is questionable (three of them were all turned into animals for the majority of the film), and they have only included some cultures. PoC are not interchangeable, every “non-white” cannot be lumped into a group of their own. Frozen also was not respectful in their treatment of the Sami people. The creators claimed that Kristoff was a Sami, but gave him an entirely inaccurate costume and used the Sami people’s practice of Reindeer herding in order to create Sven (the reindeer) as a token sidekick animal. They also anglicized at Sami song, written by a Sami artist, and had it preformed by an English choir. (The song" Vuelie" played at the beginning of the movie). This is particularly offensive because of the treatment of Sami people within their own countries and previous laws that prohibited them from even speaking their native language. I LOVE Disney, their movies have given me so much joy over the years, and I chose to go to Disney World as my Wish trip (Granted to me by the Children’s Wish, the Canadian counter-part to Make-a-Wish).But, as much as I love Disney I have to recognize their faults, and they haven’t been as inclusive (for PoC, persons with disabilities, etc.) as they should be (setting is not an excuse, Disney is fantasy or as respectful to other peoples and cultures as they should have been. There is hope for the future though, and I believe that Disney will improve with time.Frozen is a great movie and I love it. But, it is not free from mistakes and we have to recognize that without complaining about people"shitting on it for for the people being white" because this is a recurring theme, and I expect better from Disney. We can be critical of a movie without taking a way from out enjoyment of it, so please be open minded to the errors in the film. Thank you. -- source link
