penguintim:i want to FIGHT the BBC SO BADThe two surviving episodes had been fully restored. All the extras were complete, including commentaries. The cover art had been commissioned and was complete. All that was missing for this release to go ahead was a means of portraying the two missing episodes.Animation of those two missing episodes was commissioned several years ago, but the animation company was unable to fulfil that contract and no other company would take on the project for the same price. Okay, fair enough. Stick a couple of official recons on it, then. Heck, they’ve got the soundtracks with linking narration all ready and available from the CD release - put those on there. But Dan Hall, who was the champion of the Classic Doctor Who range for many years, is no longer in post and no new champion has taken his place. Lacking that championship, BBC Worldwide evidently feel that this particular title wouldn’t be cost effective to release, and would rather cut their losses on the expense already accrued than shell out more to complete the release, knowing it would be unlikely to sell enough to break even. That’s the bottom line.Which means that Underwater Menace episode two remains the ONLY extant episode of Doctor Who not available on DVD.That sucks.I’m really glad I have my bootleg copy… -- source link
