Village Mayor, Ukraine 2004The East BorderIn 2004 Poland joined the European Union amongst 10 other eastern European states. I travelled the eastern border of Poland from the south in Przemysl up to the north to Sejny. There i met interesting people who were strongly connected to this area. There was few industry left and the border had a big impact on the peoples life. Smugglers were bringing in vodka and cigarettes, a lot of people on both sides left to work in the west and left their children with the grandparents. Orthodox jews from all over the world came to visit the graves of the holy Zaddiks, as Galicia was the birthplace of Chassidic Jews. Christian orthodox had their pilgrimage to Grabarka and in the little town of Hajnovka at the Belarusian border some crazy guys of the Lenin Cafe even made business of faking raids on tourists disguised as soviet soldiers. It was my first long trip as a photographer and i just loved it. So in the following years i visited Ukraine, Belarus, Lithuania and a lot more eastern European states to document life. This is the first part of my ever lasting project “Living in oblivion”.#janzappner #streetphotography #Poland #eastborder #photography #EuropeanUnion #Livinginoblivion #2004 #negativ #film #35mm #ukraine #documentaryphotography #Colourphotography #photodocumentary #insidephotos #streetphotographersfdn #fromstreetwithlove #filmphotography #streetphotographersmagazine #streetphotographerscommunity #spicollective #streetphotographer #streets_storytelling #mayorhttps://www.instagram.com/p/CMFbw4rHf7l/?igshid=wbq9fdtvyhyl -- source link
