Hi y’all! My name is Teresa Juarez Moran, and you’re invited to attend our Permissions of Truth teen night on Friday, March 15!History has rewritten the stories of minorities, morphing their truths and causing more harm than good. By focusing Permissions of Truth on this topic we use our voices as a tool to pave the pathway for verity. By using the exhibitions Half the Picture: A Feminist look at the Collection and Frida Kahlo: Appearances can be Deceiving, the Teen Night Planning Committee had an in depth understanding of international communities combating stigma.Amazing talents for the night include our resident DJ, Dj iNo, rappers Euphony and Omie, as well as singers Ania Hoo and Lele. In addition we will be hosting an Open Mic, so bring your talented selves over and sign up to perform! In our galleries, we will be moderating a panel discussion centered around unapologetic expression titled The Other Half, featuring artist/political activist Sneha Sinha and rapper Taphari. In addition, all teen night attendees will get free access to our new exhibition Frida Kahlo: Appearances can be Deceiving, and our Museum Apprentices will be hosting pop up talks about Frida Kahlo’s art and life. Finally, we will be joined by some amazing vendors including Center for Anti-Violence Education and Octavia Project.Leading Permissions of Truth felt powerful, it brought identities which aren’t commonly represented in today’s society into the conversation through contemporary artists and their predecessors. Despite location and ability we find common ground with others and pull through the use of perseverance and storytelling. No one should ever be able to withdraw your pen from the table. That’s your permission of truth.Posted by Teresa Juárez MoranSong: Sunny by Ania Hoo -- source link
