I thought of you when I stumbled upon this illustration while looking through a 1770s volume credited to Johannes Müller (1733-1816). In the image, dated 1534, the man is holding what looks like a firearm of some kind. An arquebus?(ETH-Bibliothek)—It looks like it but I have no idea what that is. -- source link
