The Somali elephant shrew has been rediscovered! With no sightings for over fifty years, it had been placed on Global Wildlife Conservation’s list of lost species. But, good news: it was found just last week in Djibouti, a country in the Horn of Africa. Elephant shrews, comprised of nineteen species, may resemble mice but are actually closely related to aardvarks, manatees, and elephants. Images from: Thomas Pennant’s History of quadrupeds.
