Other places to see my posts:INSTAGRAM / FACEBOOK / ETSY / KICKSTARTERApril 4th was LoafversaryI can’t believe this little guy’s been here for a year.Last year around this time, I was asked to guest lecture on animal anatomy at CSU. The students were going to be dissecting rabbits as part of the class.A week ahead of the class, I called a supplier of feeder rabbits and order ten frozen rabbits. They breed and supply frozen rabbits for feeding large pythons, and for feeding animals at sanctuaries and zoos.A year ago today, I went to pick up the rabbits. They all looked good except for one that was caked in frozen blood. I didn’t think it was acceptable to bring an animal that was excessively bloody to the class, so I asked for a different one. But they didn’t have a different one to sell me, so they offered to cull one for me.I didn’t really like this idea, but I also didn’t want to be out a rabbit for the class. So I agreed and they promised that they would keep this one clean during the process. So we head out back, and the rabbits are in stacked cages. They climb up the stepladder, grab a small brown rabbit out of the bin and hand it to me.I’m holding on to it while they’re locking the cages and I’ve not handled rabbits very much before, and I expected him to struggle and kick. But he didn’t. He just sat in my arms looking around. He didn’t even seem to be scared. He was extremely soft and very friendly.So…. I couldn’t hand him over to be gassed. The supplier wasn’t actually supposed to sell them alive. I told them I would never speak of this matter. And I took him home in a cardboard box.The class rolls around. I’m short one rabbit. I decided to just give the demonstration rabbit to one of the student groups. That way every group would have a rabbit to dissect. My assistant Mona (@twistedwingpress) and I go to the class. It turns out that there’s a bunch of students missing. We weren’t short a rabbit after all! The class is great and the students really enjoyed it.So… now I’ve just have him. He mostly lays around my apartment.Other places to see my posts:INSTAGRAM / FACEBOOK / ETSY / KICKSTARTER -- source link
