Week 001 - ImpressionismArtist: Edgar Degas (1834-1917)Edgar Degas was french painter born in 1834 but also one of the main founder of impressionism and yet he had a complex relationship with other artists in the group (he rejected the term impressionism, preferring to be called a realist). He avoided working in plein air like a lot of painters and he decided to focus on a more personal aspect of the world with also a huge work on movement with his studies of dancers. As he said himself, “no art was ever less spontaneous than mine. What I do is the result of reflection and of the study of the Old Masters.” Despite this, his subject matter (scenes of Parisian life), his composition (often off-centre), his experimentation with vivid colour, and his friendship with key Impressionist artists including Manet, all bring him within the fold of the Impressionist school. A quote from Edgar Degas:Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.Ressources:If you want to see all the paintings from Edgar Degas:https://www.wikiart.org/en/edgar-degas/all-works#!#filterName:all-paintings-chronologically,resultType:masonryThe wikipedia page:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edgar_DegasLink to High Resolutions in order:https://artsandculture.google.com/asset/four-dancers/iAFWbqGhTiAZuwhttps://artsandculture.google.com/asset/dancers/CQGDUMb-bIZ1wwhttps://artsandculture.google.com/asset/apr%C3%A8s-le-bain-femme-s-essuyant/eQHokrEB-vOVWwhttps://artsandculture.google.com/asset/waiting/rAGrgf6PPS13fwhttps://artsandculture.google.com/asset/woman-sponging-her-back/vQGZlT6VLDDFswhttps://artsandculture.google.com/asset/ballet-dancers/awEGJs9yZF8pMwhttps://artsandculture.google.com/asset/women-combing-their-hair/vgHKz6OV4wcdughttps://artsandculture.google.com/asset/les-blanchisseuses/3gG8Q-I269ztkwhttps://artsandculture.google.com/asset/melancholy/GwFy89Esfh9ccA -- source link
