The Holy Trinity Chapel at Lublin Castle, XV century. Lublin, Poland. The Chapel was build in second half of XIV century, and in 1418 by order of king Władysław Jagiełło it was decorated with frescos in Bizantine/Russian style. For centuries it’s been a Royal Chapel, and a scene of many historical events, such as Union of Lublin in 1569, (and some of them you can find inscribed in graffiti on the wall in the back). At the beginning of XIX century, Lublin Castle was turned into prison and the frescos were painted over. They remained hidden until 1899, when Józef Smoliński discovered the Foundation Fresco on stairway. For another 100 years frescos were succesfully restored, and today the Chapel is considered an European Treasure. Detailed article about the frescos can be found here.
