caroline-klaus:Selton Mello as an elderly Emperor Dom Pedro II of Brazil during his exile in “Nos Tempos do Imperador” (2020), a sequel to “Novo Mundo” (2017).Dom Pedro II (2 December 1825 – 5 December 1891), nicknamed “the Magnanimous”, was the second and last monarch of the Empire of Brazil (1822-1889), reigning for almost half a century. He was the youngest child of Emperor Dom Pedro I of Brazil and Empress consort Maria Leopoldina of Austria. Pedro II was married to Empress consort Teresa Cristina of the Two Sicilies, and they had four children, two of whom survived childhood: Princess Isabel of Brazil and Princess Leopoldina of Brazil. His father’s sudden abdication and departure to Europe left the five year-old Pedro as Emperor and he was later crowned at the age of 15. His reign consolidated the unification of Brazil and was one of political stability and economic growth, wich turned the nation into an emerging power internationally. An erudict, Pedro also established a reputation asa devoted sponsor of learning, art, culture, and the sciences. During his rule Brazil was victorious in the Platine War, the Uruguayan War, and the War of the Triple Alliance/Paraguayan War, as well as prevailing in other international and domestic disputes. The abolition of slavery came in 1888 when his heir Princess Isabel, acting as his regent, signed the Lei Áurea/Golden Law. The reign of Dom Pedro II ended on November 15 1889 when the monarchy was overthrown in a military coup d'état. The republic was then instituted in Brazil and the Emperor and his family were sent into exile in Europe. Emperor Dom Pedro II died in Paris two years later. -- source link
