c-rowlesdraws:c-rowlesdraws: VolusQuest 2021 off to a slow start… I want to give these guys the cute design I feel they deserve but I don’t just want to make another wet-eyed little mammal-looking creature like I usually do! But that’s what they’re going to be. I can feel it.essential design points: wrinkles, chubby cheeks, little bitty beady eyes. Thinking about bristly whiskers/heat pits/other sensory organs on the face that could aid or take precedent over weak eyesight (with input handled by their suit), since there’s no way those tiny blinky eyepieces they have on their helmets give them a decent field of vision.“ksssshhh. Pizza delivery. Double pepperoni.” VolusQuest 2021 continues! Refining their face and thinking about them as creatures. The head nostrils I like would make sense for a semi-aquatic lifestyle, and their round, buoyant body shape would let them gently float at the surface of lakes and rivers. The whiskers and soft papules on their face and snout help them detect minute changes in water currents and electrical fields given off by other creatures, while their eyesight is comparatively weak. The volus’ distant ancestors primarily ate water plants and tubers, and while modern volus on the homeworld have very sophisticated and industrialized agricultural methods (and have also largely moved beyond semi-aquatic life for a more land-based one), many still like to get out in nature and keep ancient traditions alive by going foraging. Also, swimming is just fun! This volus has a bathing apron on (I wanted to give them swimwear and not have them just be naked), and a little tuber-slicing knife, which is a family heirloom. -- source link
