My 2 second Sinister review: Not bad for a movie where I’m pretty sure the monster was the drummer from Slipknot. My 30 second SPOILER FREE Sinister review: So, I was prepared to hate this movie. I loathe Insidious so I really wasn’t expecting much out of it. It was waaaaaaay better than I expected. Without spoiling the plot, it’s nicely atmospheric through most of the movie. The home movies are nicely creepy. The sound design was immaculate and I am a junkie for good sound. It really, really enriched the film in all the right ways.It falls apart on two things for me. First, the special FX/make up of the “scary things” in the movie. I won’t spoil what they are but they just looked….. badly made up and very fake. It took me right out of my scare zone and just made me annoyed. This is the same thing that happened to me with Insidious so maybe they just need to fire their MUA and hire my friend Gage to actually make the makeup hold together. The other bit I wasn’t into was the ending. It wasn’t as totally shitty as people have been saying but it was very “uhhhhhh we don’t know how to end this movie so……. murder?” Seriously, if you go see it, just walk out as soon as you find out who is filming the movies. If they just cut it there instead of leaving the last 5 minutes in, it would be a vastly better film.As it is, it’s definitely worth a watch. It’s not “scary” per se but it does have nice atmosphere and pacing. The sound design is worth paying to see it in the theater if you have a local place with good speakers. Don’t cry if you miss it- it’s nothing special but it’s nowhere near as bad as I was expecting. -- source link
