kelogsloops: It’s such a treat being able to compare these little sketches with the works as they near completion. There are so many decisions and changes that occur along the process as the painting comes to life. One thing that I was really adamant about as this piece progressed was the embracing of the unique qualities of watercolour. My technique and control has developed a lot this past year, and I’ve learned to control watercolour a lot better. To such an extent, that I can paint so cleanly without making a single accidental splatter. But in doing so, I realise I’ve forgotten about those things that made watercolour so special in the first place… those accidental splatters, the chaotic blooms and the spontaneous bleeds of the paint. And it was while I worked on this piece that I wanted to include those little details. It’s not a drastic change, not at all… but it’s these tiny details that make me happy, and remind me why I love this medium. -- source link
