ibeggedformercytwice: sherlocked-inside-the-tardis: bluebackstabber: Is it just me or does he kind of sound really sad at the fact that no one could ever understand him? It’s that distant sort of echo that rings hollow because Jim knows no one would be there to buffer that empty-room sound. He just looks so disappointed at the entire world, and he’s just so alone, just stayin’ alive. That’s what I like about this show. The characters aren’t all completely evil or completely good. Even if Moriarty looks evil, he’s just really really lonely, which then causes him to shut the world out and blow it up. Just look at his eyes. The way his eyes look at the ground is as if he is dreaming about having somebody in his life. Not a girl, or boy, friend perhaps but maybe just a friend. Somebody he can count on. Like John is for Sherlock. In the platonic sense. Being as cold on the outside as Moriarty you don’t get the chance to make friends. He just wants somebody to understand the real him. He may look young and attractive but his eyes look so old. Like they are tired of all the terror and all the trouble he causes because he is alone. All alone. He’s been fighting people for so long and he has nobody to show off to. Not even Sherlock because in the end, Sherlock is just an ordinary person. Moriarty has no one. Jim has no one. I remember his tone of voice from this part and I have to say, it sounds a lot like I do sometimes. Trying to seem strong. Powerful. In charge. When in fact, you aren’t. Andrew Scott, can I just say, you are an amazing actor, Sir. The amount of emotionality you convey in just … barely even 5 minutes air time. It is perfect. You can send chills up our spines, you can make us laugh and make us curse. Turns out you can also make us feel sorry for your character. That and you bring so much style and elegance to the role. The best Moriarty I have ever seen. Far above the original. Far above Granada. You, Sir, are brilliant. -- source link
