starryfansquid:blackbrownuniverse:It has always been a struggle trying to get people to care about what is actually happening in Africa. For decades Africa’s leadership has been one of puppets placed in power by private interest groups whose sole purpose is to palaver, filibuster and obfuscate any and all opposition. Sound familiar? Well if you think Trump is bad you have no idea what it’s like for Nigerians. The “tired” that we feel is nothing more than a sample of the frustration that everyday Nigerians have to deal with. In short, if you can, please do your best to support our sisters and brothers who are risking their lives trying to end the horrendous cycle of police brutality in Nigeria. B&BL Strategize. Organize. Amplify. Sustain. Source: @salemkinging Via: @_jessicaduru[id: title “Why Me Must Involve Our Parents Right Away” with a picture of a Black person with an old style TV held up in front of their face with the hashtag End SARS in red on it. Beside is Twitter handle of Salem King (@salemkinging). Following that are six paragraphs of text with the first sentence of each bolded:01. Traditional media has failed us. There have been no reports of the nationwide protest on national radio and TV channels and even where there have been, the reality has been heavily played down and underrated. Most of us have never bought a newspaper but most of our parents get the daily newspaper, and if it’s not there, they don’t think it’s serious news. They are blatantly hiding into. Coincidence? I think the heck not.02. They think this is another trend: They don’t understand how serious this is. They thing the “pressing-phone generation” is at it again. It’s our life we are fighting for. It’s not BB Naija. It’s not football. We’re just tryna not get shot at.03. They think their children are exempt. They’ve given you decent home training and a good education so they’re so sure you’ll never have anything to do with the police cause you’re not a criminal. You need to let them know that it’s not crime that’s getting us killed. It’s existing. They need to know you could be next like tomorrow, later today. Show them the videos of parents that have mourned.04. They are influential. Some of you have parents in positions where they can make decisions that will move us forward. Some of them have access to decision makers. They have influence that we don’t have. They know people that can effect this change. Help us to talk to them abeg! Use your voice!05. They are part of the problem. I didn’t tell my parents I go harassed by SARS cause they would have said “if you had listened to us and cut this hair, they wouldn’t harass you.” We’ve all heard our parents say judgemental things like “why was she out late?” “What are they doing there?” SARS is built on that mentality most of our parents are carrying. As people are dying, they will ask “why did they go to the protest?” This problem is at home with us.06. This is the country they left us. They’re always telling us about the good old days “back then in Nigeria” and “when I was your age.” [in caps] We can’t freaking relate! [end caps] All we have is stories. A Nigerian graduate has to work 100 times harder than your had to 40 years ago. We are trying to rewrite our own story. The least they can do is not be unconcerned or worse still, be roadblocks. This is the country they left us.“ 07. “By parents I don’t just mean your father and mother. I’m talking all your uncles and aunties and older citizens you have a relationship with. We’re making noise on Twitter and Instagram but our parents are not here. WhatsApp and Facebook is quiet. Involve them, engage them educate them. If you want a WhatsApp broadcast message to send to them, DM me this post.”This is followed by Salem King’s signature again and a final section that included the text: We have lost many. As we speak, more are out there marching, praying, running, getting shot at and tear-gassed, getting injured and even arrested. May the labour of our heroes present not be in vain. [Brown upraised fist emoji]“ In large red block letters "End SARS!!!” followed by an image of a Twitter thread started by user ohmygoodness. “My Dad is agreeing to Donate power banks and sanitizers to Protestoers by God’s grace it’s on going. Salemkinging responds "A KING” with two brown raised fist emojis. Ohmygoodness replies “Yes sir this must END !!!” End ID] -- source link
