And it’s amazing our minds give us that option as a survival strategy. Dissociation is a well-worn groove in my brain. But one thing I’ve been learning in jiu jitsu is that when my body is being crushed I can take it back with patience and precision, focusing on miniscule movements to slowly reclaim the space I’m in. And I realized the same is true with my heart when I’m feeling crushed by disappointment and grief. I can feel that weight and also notice the tiny spaces in between where I can begin to inch back to myself. Then I feel big enough to hold everything that’s in my heart.” -- source link
