Free-Spirited Muse Takes Center Stage Taylor Swift is a huge fan of feminine label J. Mendel, and the pop princess is sure to be maxing her credit cards following the designer’s latest lace-laden offering. Citing the song, Cargo Culte, as the source of his inspiration for the spring 2014 collection, Gilles Mendel delivered a string of glamorous looks, designed to portray Gainsbourg’s free-spirited muse with a sophisticated New York edge. Loose shorts and cropped motorcycle jackets hit the mark and personified Mendel’s trademark slick, uptown, razor-sharp glam, whilst flirty hemlines and low-slung, relaxed fit pants highlighted the label’s effortless approach to glamour. Molly Sims and Brad Goreski graced the show’s front row, which featured a string of sherbet and pastel-colored t-shirts spliced into color-blocks of black silk, lemon scuba satin, and gold lattice embroidery. Form-flattering and straightforward silhouettes were coupled with a color palette that transpired from lightweight corals and whites to darker shades of grey and black. A standout look was a sophisticated pastel yellow shift spliced with geometric strips of ivory lace, given a dramatic edge by a dramatic tiered black organza hem. The collections range of evening separates adopted a jungle-inspired tone through metallic green and gold jacquard patterns on a sleeveless top and dress.  As if taking precautions should Swift tumble down the Miley Cyrus rabbit hole, the offering provided a range of edgier, racy looks, which included sexy fitted fishtail gowns and shift dresses sprayed with a mix of lace, jacquard and organza. Python lapels might have seemed out of place in this otherwise ultra-refined, polished lineup, but the designer made it work by teaming them with a sheer metallic cropped tank and a slouchy pant in grey crepe. One thing sure to hit the red carpet come awards season was a plunging, sheer neon orange gown with a floral brocade pattern and hot pink seams – the perfect revenge for when Taylor bumps into her most recent ex.  -- source link
