#Nixon50 #OTD 9/22/1971 First Lady Pat Nixon christened the USS California (CGN-36) in Newport News, Virginia. The frigate, nicknamed the “Golden Grizzly”, was the namesake of the California-class of nuclear-powered guided missile cruisers and the sixth warship named for the State of California.
