Schultz Larsen Model 38/RPLT42These are very rare rifles with a very interesting history. Made in Denmark the SL Model 1938 was a hunting/sporting rifle chambered for 8x58R and sold to the civilian market. During World War II Germany overran the nation and took over their arms industry. In 1942 they came out with the SL Model 38/RPLT42 Karabiner, which was a militarized version of the Model 38. The purpose of this was to arm the Danish Coast Guard, who task was to prevent Jews, refugees, and Danish military officers from escaping to Sweden. Unfortunately for the Nazi’s the Danish Coast Guard was unwilling to go along with their occupiers goals. The Danish Coast Guard pretended to patrol Danish shores, but there was an understanding that they would not stop anyone trying to escape the country. In fact 99% of the country’s Jewish population escaped to Sweden during the war. In 1943 the Danish Resistance raided the factory that produced the rifles and many were stolen. As a result production of the Model 38/RPLT42 was discontinued. Only about 1,200 were made. After the war, Shultz Larsen went back to doing what they did best, making hunting rifles. Shultz Larsen also repurchased many Model 38/RPLT42 from the Coast Guard and converted them back into sporting rifles. -- source link
