cyclehaul: The first pair of wheels that I ever laced and recently rebuilt was a nice pair of Crest rims paired with Hope hubs. But that left a heavier, worn but working set of wheels gathering dust in my garage. What to do with them? Turn them into a set of commuter wheels! So I got a pair of Maxxis Grifter street tires and a 16t sprocket. And voila, a light and fast single speed urban commuter. The advantage of having another pair is that I can have different gearing on my off-road wheels (16t vs. 20t), and there is just enough play to tension the chain for both configurations. Swapping back and forth is only a question of a few minutes. At least this will give the Unit some play time, since I’m hitting the trails with the fat bike all the time now. -- source link
