In 2011 King began using Fuji Instax film (similar to Polaroid) to photograph her many model friends. Her intent was not to be a photographer or to even make art. She was motivated to follow her joy and pleasure – for the fun of it. Nonetheless she produced a unique collection of photographs. Her photographs are worthy of attention as they are made “outside” the perimeters and aesthetic concerns of established photography and art. Her images are unpretentious and free of formal calculation. On the surface King’s images may be seen as mere snapshots. More importantly, her photographs are documentation of a set of young women in the early twenty-first century. The subjects in her photographs are very much of the “present,” but in the future they may well be seen as emblematic of a past iconic style. Without intending, Sophie King has captured a moment in time. The Invisible Gallery will exhibit Sophie King’s instant photographs May 18th and 19th, 2013. In addition to Ms King’s work behind the camera, several photographers will exhibit their images of Sophie King as subject. The photographers include, Todd Eko, Alissa Brunelli, Wolfgang Parker, Collin J. Rae and Chas Ray Krider -- source link
