objectd: Improve The Breed - Objects vs. slaves Human beings have a remarkable ability to dehumanize one another: to conceive of others as subhuman creatures, and to treat them accordingly. This is how slave owners conceived of their human chattel. Slaves are not typically dehumanized and as such are still regarded as human even though they are most definitely considered property. However, the Object is imagined as a dehumanized creature with a subhuman essence. They are by necessity regarded and treated as inferior beings, things or tools. Objects exist because our universe demands a natural balance at the most extreme levels of Dominance and submission. Tools are an excellent analogy for the use and treatment of an Object. Tools by their very existence are intended to serve a specific purpose. Some tools are versatile in what they can be used for. Even the most caring and considerate user of a tool will use that tool for purposes other than what it was intended for, in essence abusing that tool. Tools are used and then put away or just left laying where they are until the next it is needed. Some tools are carefully maintained, sharpened so that it will be ready the next time it is needed to perform, regardless of the level of abuse it was previously used for. Other tools are used and tossed aside with little regard on the assumption that it will simply be there and ready. Objects are used in much the same manner. Whether that tool or thing is a toaster, a toilet, or a shovel casually discarded into the bed of a waiting pickup truck which is then left parked outdoors in the cold and expected to be ready to work again the following morning. Objects exist to fill this need in the world. it exists to serve a purpose. it is NOT human, regardless of the origin of its birth. Slaves that have been transitioned and dehumanized are considered Objects. As an Object it loses all of the privilege and distinction it may have once had as a slave. Both slaves and objects are property. The principal difference between a slave and an object is the recognition of its humanity. Slaves are human… Objects are NOT human. ObjectD So, i know that thinking is what i could stand to do a little less of here, but i really want to consider this at a later date. paging Graham Harman. -- source link
