clioshiddenportraits:Yuenü (literally the Lady of Yue) first appears in the ‘Commentary of Zuo’, which was written in the Warring States Period, by Zuo Zhuan. The text develops the story behind the entries in the ‘Autumn and Spring Annals’ and is the most famous and accepted of the historic narratives of such kind, while there being disagreements in the extent of veracity of its reports.The account tells during the Autunm and Spring Period of China, the king Goujian of Yue invited a woman from the Southern Forest whom was known for her sword skills. The woman told had learned such skills by herself, as a necessity of living in the forest and made the first known exposition of swordsmanship fundaments, which for her was based in the yin yang concept, she explained one have to maintain calm while developing strength. Impressed the king ordered for her to train his commanders and gave her the title of Lady of Yue. There are more relates of female warriors at that age in China, even with more likelihood, but Yuenü is the base of many swordswomen in the chinese novels of the sequent centuries and even in the modern wuxia movies. -- source link
