In any breeding regimen, there will be woes … I tend to err on the side of teachable moments from failures/mishaps. . As in this maturing #orchid fruit that, through the standard course of watering, I moved too quickly and snapped off. . The teachable moment? An opportunity to cross-section a fertilized, swelling ovary in between developmental stages. . This was pollinated a little over 2-3 months ago. As most #orchids go, it reached full size early in development, creating the empty space that should one day fill up with thousands of dusty orchid seeds. . I made my cut exactly here so that the full structure the male gametes travelled down to fertilize the ovums was showcased. . Put any questions in the comments! . #Asparagales #Orchidaceae #Epidendroideae #Cymbidieae #Zygopetalinae #Zygopetalum #Zygonisia #Aganisia #orchidbreeding #plantlife #plantdad #HouseofGreen #onlyplants (at Arlington, Virginia) https://www.instagram.com/p/CSQQQ5sLDqM/?utm_medium=tumblr -- source link
