itemfinder:qinghe-s:i’m fine i’m just thinking about the way nie mingjue looks at his little brother when he says that if they’re going to die, at least they’ll die together [id: two gifs of nie mingjue from fatal journey. he is seen from the chest up as he sits hunched over in a dark cave. there are traces of blood on his forehead and right cheek. in the first gif he’s looking away in shame but turns to look up at nie huaisang, whose head can be seen out of focus in the foreground as he speaks, and a tear can be seen rolling down nie mingjue’s cheek. in the second gif he keeps looking at his little brother. he’s visibly upset in both gifs, but his expression softens in the second. end id.] #okay okay. #gimme a second #my relationship with fatal journey being canon is very pick-and-choosy #but Mingjue has never looked more young than in this scene #he has been trying to be clan leader and dad figure and older brother to Huaisang all at once #all while keeping his family’s traditions alive #there is no pretty overlap with those roles. some things are going to fall by the wayside and a lot of that is being able to empathize fully #with his brother #I’m convinced that he KNOWS part of why Huaisang refuses to practice sabers. he doesn’t want to die horribly. #he doesn’t want to become something that’s not himself and potentially hurt other people and then die young #in terrible pain #the way that Mingjue has resigned himself to–cause he a HAS #but the friction is the fact that he wants his brother to shape up and make something of himself and represent their sect #and he knows that Huaisang is going to be the next Clan Leader. and soon. and he’s so scared he hasn’t made him prepare enough #but how could he? because if you get right down to it they both know that demanding Huaisang practice more means killing him slowly #and while Mingjue is prepared to die it’s difficult to demand that of his little brother #and so he’s ready to be alone and scared and in pain #and he’s still trying to juggle those roles and be The Adult like he has to be with Huaisang #and Huaisang said ‘I’m not going to let you die alone and scared’ #‘I’ll be here. you still have me.’ #THIS ISN’T A REVELATION BUT UGH #SOMEONE IS REASSURING HIM. SOMEONE IS TAKING CARE OF HIM. SOMEONE ISN’T TRYING TO SAVE HIM OR MAKE HIM STAY #THEY’RE SAYING ‘I KNOW WHAT’S HAPPENING AND I KNOW IT’S TOO LATE.
