Project Runway All Stars Review - Episodes 1 & 2 And it finally came back: Project Runway All St
Project Runway All Stars Review - Episodes 1 & 2 And it finally came back: Project Runway All Stars is airing again with its fourth season. I’m extremely late with this review - the second episode already came and passed - and that was all due to laziness. But as I’m regaining my creative force, here I am to tell you all about what I thought during this first two rendez-vous with our favourite designers! First of all I was so so happy to see some designers, especially Patricia, Alexandria (and they were actually the first two to be eliminated, is it a joke? -.- ) as well as Michelle (if she does at least half of what she did for her finale collection, she’s going to win), Samantha (her elimination was one of the most unacceptable moments in PR history IMO) and Kate (for the third time, they really love her <3). Now, let’s start the show! Episode 1: Made in Manhattan Well well well, it was TEAM CHALLENGE! I don’t think the ones coming from the team season were really happy about it (I noticed Michelle’s and Patricia’s faces when they found out they were going to work in teams). It was the most classic of the challenges: men vs women. The two groups had to choose a style between DOWNTOWN and UPTOWN, and as men had to choose first, OF COURSE they chose downtown. The teams had to create cohesive collections, but each designer was responsible for his/her own creation (just like in Season 11). At the end, men with downtown were the winners, but I don’t agree. I think both teams did a good job, but in the end I found the women’s collection more cohesive and more interesting, also from a textile point of view. Anyway, poor Patricia had to leave because she didn’t have time to make one of her amazing textile manipulations (I know many of my readers won’t agree about the ‘amazing’, but I really like her) and delivered just an A-line white chiffon dress (which was not really the worst out of her group anyway). Fabio was the deserved winner, he was definitely the best among the men. But who my favourite and loser were? Alexandria stole my heart with an ensemble which was girly and glamorous but edgy as well - and this is definitely her style. I was so excited to see what she could do in this season after seeing her work for the finale of her PR season, and I was really happy: the top is just to die for, and the skirt has a beautiful flow. Colours were perfect, styling was even more perfect. Definitely my pick for this episode. Justin didn’t do badly but I couldn’t really understand his piece. I didn’t like that skirt - too short? - and the overall impression was something which slightly reminded me of Lara Croft. I don’t want to say he’s not a good designer, just that he’s mediocre. Episode 2: The Art of Construction Being All Star means hard work, and designers immediately had to face, after the team challenge, another very feared mission: the unconventional challenge! This time they were brought to a warehouse completely FULL of construction materials - including two cute construction workers, I guess I would have taken them! :P I was pleasantly surprised that no one did a bad job, apart from one person who very clearly - alas! - missed the mark completely. And this time my best and worst were just the same as the judges’ choice. Oddly enough, they are the same two people I chose for the first episode, just switched in their roles. Justin did an amazing job with his dress, using a sort of plastic fence as the structure of the piece and covering it with little plastic bands in black and white. What I liked the most was the sort of degradé feel given by the transition from black to white. Amazing! Just one thing: didn’t he use the same materials for the unconventional dress he presented for his finale collection during season 12? I also remember that dress made noise as well - another thing I loved about this, it’s like saying HEY, I’M HERE AND YOU CAN’T IGNORE ME. While Alexandria stole my heart during the first episode, in this one she broke it. I couldn’t believe my eyes: did Alexandria really create that rubbish bag? I was shocked. Not only didn’t the dress have any design whatsoever, but it also looked like random construction materials were thrown onto it. I understand the kind of goth, dark vibe, but this was just not pretty at all. And sometimes is fine, because in our time beauty doesn’t always coincide with pretty, ugly can be beautiful, but this was just TERRIFYING. And I’m sorry to say, she deserved to go home. What’s going to happen during the next episode? Let’s wait and see. BTW, I watched the first episode of Project Runway Threads and decided not to review it: it’s just the most boring thing I’ve ever seen, so boring I decided not to watch it anymore. See you after the next episode of Project Runway All Stars! xxx -- source link
