flapjaccc:gaybowser:supportsapphic:this is gay privilege Can none of you readOkay but a good question is why is gay/lesbian not just homosexual while straight is heterosexual and bisexual is well biTry this; when not specifically engaged in a conversation about sexuality, ask someone to give you the opposites of a few words. Up will usually get you down, dark will usually get you light, and straight will usually get you crooked. The term itself originated in the U.S. gay community in the mid-20th century specifically to refer to those who chose to leave the gay community and return to the “straight and narrow” world of performative heterosexuality that was expected of them. The broader adoption of the term to simply refer to “default” heterosexuality is unsurprising when you consider that earlier uses of “straight” typically referred to the opposite of deviance from the social norm; a straight businessman is honest and won’t cheat you, getting straight means one is no longer under the influence of drugs or alcohol, etc. -- source link
