Camp Pendleton in California was a US refugee camp set up as North Vietnamese forces overtook Saigon during the Vietnam War. It was the first US landing point for over 50,000 refugees from Vietnam and other SE Asian countries.In 1975, Camp Pendleton was transformed in only 36 hours to accommodate the chaotic evacuation of refugees. US Marines and volunteers built and staffed temporary housing, toilets, clinics, and other facilities. One of four resettlement centers on military bases across the US, Camp Pendleton existed from April to October of 1975.
