azrael-starhammer:weavemama:azrael-starhammer:more-hopeless-than-romantic:weavemama:BLESS THIS THREAD Fucking demolished.Did this dickwad wilson frontier even ask what “abhorrent” opinions michelle had before turning her honest tweet into another oppression competition?and are you saying that people in a country with the right to free speech should not be free to voice as abhorrent opinions as they want without suffering repercussions worse than just social ostracization? the more we make people walk on eggshells to express their opinions, the more we confine the truth, and the best way to find out who the true abhorrent people are is to LET THEM SPEAKNo. We’re not saying you shouldn’t say what you want. What we’re saying is that you can’t whine about being “afraid” for having controversial opinions when there are people out there who have a REAL reason to be afraid. There’s no reason to turn these things into a contest over who can be more afraid. Just because someone is afraid to express their opinion doesn’t mean they are dissing other people’s reasons to be afraid. And if you’re saying I can’t whine about being “afraid,” you’re basically saying I can’t say what I want. Which one is it?Okay. 1. The person isn’t making it a contest. He’s just simply pointing out the many things people have to fear on a daily basis. Boo fucking hoo she’s afraid of speaking out her “conservative views”, maybe if she took a look at what conservatives have said/done in the past, she would know why she might have to take some heat. 2. It’s not about “dissing other people’s reasons to be afraid”, it’s about being so soaked up in your privilege you forget about what the people around you have to go through. Her tweet obviously made it seem like she was somehow being oppressed heavily for being a conservative republican. By saying she’s “genuinely afraid”????… bitch please. No one’s gonna feel bad for you for wanting to strip people of their basic human rights. 3. Being afraid =/= not being able to say what you want. There’s no correlation. Like I mentioned, you can say whatever you want. But if your views are controversial and it goes as far as taking away someone’s rights, people are gonna have something to say. -- source link
