Lady Catherine Carey (known following her marriage as Catherine Knollys or Lady Knollys) was a close confidant as well as chief Lady of the Bedchamber to her cousin Elizabeth I, with whom she was related to by way of her own mother, Mary Boleyn, the sister of Anne Boleyn. After her marriage Lady Catherine went on to have 14 children (13 of which survived to adulthood).
