me-sorta:legallynonbinary:Luckily I keep copies of my paperwork in at least triplicate so that they can’t do this in a way that messes with me… But they still did it when I applied for a passport. I tried getting my paperwork back and they said they “lost it”. They somehow lost 5 physician’s letters, 3 court documents, a certified copy of my birth certificate, a photocopy of my driver’s license, a photocopy of my social security card, the photocopies of Dana Zzyem’s case, the photocopies of their own policies as shown on their website, and the photocopies of how regulations for medical determination of sex say that doctors have the ultimate say, and it is the responsibility of government institutions to accommodate that for the health, freedom, and personal identity of the person applying for document without discrimination according to WPATH.There were at least 700 people living in the state of New York alone at the end of 2016 who were legally recognized as intersex or nonbinary. Stay sharp, be aware of what they’re doing, keep trying. Don’t give up.[Image Description:Tweet by @NatSecGeek: “Last week, the state department destroyed my paperwork, so now I have no passport, can’t prove citizenship, and am going to lose benefits like my health insurance. Why? Because I’m trans.”Thread response by verified user @EmilyGorcenski: “This is the third such story. It’s becoming clear they’re targeting trans activists. At this point, if you are trans I recommend the following: -retain a lawyer specializing in immigration matters -obtain multiple certified copies of any/all paperwork that you have to send -send everything by certified mail, require a signature and get a tracking # -cc your lawyer on all application materials by sending them a copy of everything in precisely the same manner. Make sure you the shipment [sic] to both the state department and your lawyer are on the same receipt.*your payment for the shipment dunno what ate those words-if your name was changed by court order, include a certified copy of this order with a raised stamp. The State Department MUST honor this else they are in contempt of court. -the gender marker change is trickier but current guidelines say they must honor a medical professional’s medical opinion. Get this, signed and notarized, by a doctor who has you in their careYes, this is gonna run you a few hundred extra dollars. So cis people you better start shelling out since this is something we have to go through that you don’t.-and finally: consider waiting this out.Gender marker changes on passports only recently became accessible. We’ve survived before and can survive again.Sending any gender change materials to the fascist federal government is a massive flag saying HI IM TRANSSo far, all of these stories involve someone engaging with the system for a renewal, change, or similar. It does not appear that the State Department is going through a database and fucking with people. Yet.Oh, and obligatory I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice.”/end of Image Description] -- source link
