Young jimuguri (burrowing rat snake/Japanese forest rat snake), pic taken by Momo. Those super shy snakes are pretty common in Japan and as their name suggests, they sleeps in burrows and prey on rodents by nightfall (they are super important for ecosystem!). Despite their vivid color they are not venomous :)I had never realised how pretty their bellies are with that check pattern! -- source link
