themotherfuckingclickerkid: skeletonmug: themotherfuckingclickerkid: I feel like a lot of vegans/vegetarians have the same issues with those gray areas All the time. A lot of omnivore people seem to be so hung up on absolutes. My opinions can be nuanced and often are and take in to consideration many shifting variables. I also hate the assumption/argument some anti-vegan people make that I value animal lives more than the lives of the people who pick veggies. And it’s like fuck no I’m capable of caring about multiple issues and they are issues which are dealt with in different manners. The answer to slave labour isn’t “continue to eat meat”, it make ethical choices were you can, lobby companies. And politicians, support worker and migrant rights and so on. You can do those things whether you eat meat or not. I also hate how often people only seem to care about migrant workers or pesticides when it comes to point scoring against vegans. Like maybe if you put that passion in to campaigning for better regulation it would be less of an issue? Ok I’m ranting now. I always have to roll my eyes hardcore at the ‘oh you don’t care about people picking vegetables???’ bc a) bitch you eat vegetables too b) meat animals have to be fed, so producing meat animals means producing the crapton of misc silage that they eat c) in what universe does excluding animal products from your diet worsen the lives of migrant workers and mostly d) who the hell do you think is working in meat processing plants? On a regular basis I drive thru a small town with a huge immigrant population and a processing plant right next to it. That place smells rank just driving past it even on days when they aren’t unloading pigs. Who do people think works in meat processing plants? Happy people with plenty of opportunities for living wage jobs with upward mobility who just happen to want to work around sharp blades, blood, and the constant smell of animal crap?My argument against factory farmed/industrialized production of meat (& etc) isn’t just that it’s shitty for animalsIt’s shitty for the people who have to work in that environment, tooAlso it wrecks our environment but whatever steaks are delicious right guys -- source link
