Frozen Beauty: Abraham Lake, a deep reservoir created by the construction of the Bighorn Dam on the North Saskatchewan River in western Alberta, Canada. It has the deep blue colour of other glacial lakes surrounded by the natural beauty of the Canadian Rockies. In the winter trapped methane created by decaying plants on the lake bed causes frozen bubbles to become trapped within the ice, in suspended animation. The visual effects formed by the resulting stacks of bubbles, frozen while rising toward the surface, combined with the clear blue water has made it a favorite beauty spot. -- source link
